Being Indispensable...

I found this earlier at SOUL SHELTER and it hit home today...So I thought I'd copy his words...But for more of his thoughts make sure you click on his site.

The One Place You’ll Always Be Indispensable

— Here’s the “job” that holds the real key to success —

Career guidance wasn’t exactly my parents’ strong suit.
“Study math and science,” Dad would say.
Good advice, but little help to someone inclined towards languages and music.
“Make yourself indispensable at work,” Mom advised.
That makes sense, but overlooks a harsh reality: if your sole ambition is to be completely indispensable in your job, you will never move onward or upward.
More to the point, who among us is truly indispensable within our organizations?
The truth is, no one — especially in today’s rocky economy. Millions of workers worldwide are now discovering just how disposable they really are.
But regardless of what happens at work, there’s one place where you will absolutely, positively, always be essential.

It’s your most important role in the world. It’s a job that, when improperly done, triggers serious social problems faced by every society on earth.
It’s the one “career” that holds the key to success in life and love. It’s the place where you’ll do the most important work of your life.
Where’s the place? What’s the role?

At home — in your role as a wife, mother, husband, father, daughter, or son.
No one can ever replace you at home. No one.

“You can always go out and get a new job,” he said, “but you can’t get a new family.”

Times are tough and bound to get tougher. So, in what may seem like an unraveling world, let’s remember one place where we’re truly irreplaceable — and always will be: home.

An Email that made me Smile

Very well stated, Mr. Leno...

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.
Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY?
Because we were always outside playing...that's why!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times,we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas..
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.. If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

Praying for Mattymatt...

TCBOTB

I came across this blog today...what a cute baby...but sadly to say he isn't long for this earth...If you care to read more click his button.

Some of you probably wonder why it is I choose to follow some of the blogs I do...Well...I really don't know except I find comfort in their words...I mean the amazing faith these families have after everything they have gone through...and if by reading strangers blogs I can learn more about the Lord above and his works on this earth today then why not follow? Miracles still happen in todays world...we just have to be open to the idea that "we" are his miracles.

Ten Things Tuesday...

Yes...It is Tuesday again...So lets begin...

XBOX Wife Ten Things Tuesday

  1. WooHoo!! I am so more PROUD more then anything. Of my nephew who is going to state this week for Wrestling. He is an awesome kid. GO TY-MAN!! I'll be listening so Mar...I better get a text with times. :) So I can have the radio on LOUDLY! Maybe over the loud Speakers so the whole square/town will hear? ;-) Wink, wink!

  2. That I was able to make it to the Distric wrestling meet this past Saturday and watch Tyler Win!
  3. The sun is still shining. Weather may get yucky later today/night but I'll take all the sun I can get right now.
  4. That yesterday when my hubby blew a tire on the trailer, while hauling a skid loader he was able to control everything and not get hurt. Whew!
  5. The new secretary we hired absolutely knows what she is doing and will be a HUGE help with the Business.
  6. For all the clothes my daughter has been given her from her best Friend. Yup they are the same age but size is a lil different.
  7. That I have time to be at home this week. Last week was so busy I met myself coming and going.
  8. That lil Veiyah's roller coater ride looks like it's on the up and up. So thanks to all her praying warriors for getting those knees dirty. But please continue...
  9. That the water in my garage is almost all dried up. The way the alley runs and where my garage sits it all runs right in. So hopefully this Spring will will have a new garage and new driveway and "FIX" this problem. But for now it is dry.
  10. I want to make a special "thanks" to the Lord Above for all the Blessings he has given my family. We receive everyday and need to learn to be grateful in return. So with that. Thank You, Lord.

Kelly's Korner: Sunday Sunday

Kelly's Korner: Sunday Sunday
I've been following this precious baby for quite a while. If you haven't clicked on her button on the side bar here another chance to catch up on one of the Amazing Lord's miracle babies.

Fun Facts

Found this Fun Facts question post over at "Growing C's". So thought I'd steel her list of questions.

1. How do you place the cups in your dishwasher? Directly on the prongs or in between the prongs? I place over the prongs...Too many prongs in my dishwasher drawer to put in between.

2. How do you hang your toilet paper? Hanging over or hanging under?Hands down it MUST be hanging over. Hanging under people I just don't understand you. The hearts or flowers are upside down the other way. Look next time if yours has a design...then you'll know.

3. What are you feelings on Kanye West? Love him or leave him? Well I guess I can leave him since I don't really have clue who he is.

4. Do you refrigerate your peanut butter or is it in your pantry? In the cupboard...too hard otherwise.

5. Do you refrigerate your maple syrup or is it in your pantry? Now this is in the fridge...not really sure why...just was the way its always been done.

6. Do you put your bread in the refrigerator? Nope...unless leaving for the weekend.

7. If you found salad dressing in your refrigerator that expired 30 days prior, would you use it or dump it? I'd dump it.

8. Do you say tissue or Kleenex? Kleenex

9. Finally, what are your feelings on cottage cheese? Scrumptious snack or disgusting? Scrumptious with a meal. Don't eat as a snack.

Valentine's Day 2009

Valentines Day was a BUSY day. Spent the morning sitting at Zach's Basketball tournament then headed to Spencer to watch my nephew become DISTRIC champ in wrestling. WooHoo...On to State for him. I'm so Proud!

I however was someone's Valentine. I love the card Malissa made for us, and the 1/2 dozen roses, (the white carnation is from a friend of R.J's so he added to mine. Kinda made the arrangement "POP".

So with Valentine's Day beingMalissa's Birthday and we spent 75%of the day sitting on bleachers I took Malissa and a couple of her friends to an indoor pool today to celebrate her 10th birthday.

Random Picture Challenge...

My Valentine Gift...10 years ago

2007 we took Malissa up town for Supper ans the restaurant knew we were coming so they made her a special cookie,

Well on Valentine's Day it will be my Babies tenth Birthday. So hard to believe she is growing up so fast. If I had a way to scan in a baby picture of her I sure would but I have only had a digital camera for a lil over two years so here is a flash back picture of her then. She hasn't changed to much. I want my daughter to know that I thank God for her and that I love her with all my might and I couldn't have asked for anything better.

  1. That I can wake all three kids every morning for school. I woke my daughter up this morning and smiled at her and her comment to me was..."Mom, you seem Happy." If that wasn't the Sweetest words.
  2. That my job doesn't begin till 8AM and I can be home with them in the morning and take Malissa to school every morning. Even though it is only three blocks.

When we filed for an EIN number our name was taken so now we are R & L General Contracting, Inc. Oh the paper trails...

Baby Shower...

This is the first baby shower I have ever been actually involved in giving. It was held Sunday afternoon at the local bar/restuartant known as...
This is one of my normal hangouts if you are not finding me at home...
This is the one of my BESTEST Friends I have ever had. She means the world to me and so does her new lil one.

So we choose to go with the "Pooh" theme and another gal who help with the shower made this awesome diaper cake.

We decorated the tables with these scratch tickets found on EBAY. You never know what you'll find there. I always search there first. They where personalized. Now I am a wishing I took a close up. Also in this picture you will see a big Candy...it is a baby wash cloth rolled up. So cute. Also found on EBAY.

The food..if you ask me was the best part...and always a hit.
